East Capitol Street SE
Created for Ocharo Art Collection, this garden responds to a varied set of objectives with a flexible layout design. Its lush, yet tough and drought-resistant palette of grasses and river birches creates a bold setting for the vibrant contemporary African artworks inside the gallery. The staggered multi-stem trees create a sequence of intimate spaces by breaking up the long narrow garden with their see-through veils of leaves. The garden provides the gallery with an outdoor exhibit and entertainment space, becoming the center of activity during all opening parties. The rear parking area doubles as a set-up station for the caterer and musicians. Featured here are the works selected by ArtGarden Design and created by Washington area sculptors - Alan Binstock, Mary Brownstein, David Burch and Sam Noto.
