12th & C Street SE
The design of this Hill garden included replacing the narrow and steep stairs with a generous stone landing and deep stairs to provide a comfortable access from the house. Uniform size stone pavers come together to form the main patio and open into a loosely planted stepping stone path leading to the rear gate. The planting area created at the base of the rear steps integrates the house and garden softening the neighboring side wall. The plantings include native sweetbay magnolia, oakleaf hydrangea, inkberry and blooming perennials that thrive under the mature elm shading the garden.
